In-Person Spring Conservation Congress Hearings Cancelled - Online Input To Be Accepted

March 28, 2020

Wisconsin Bear Hunters,

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Wisconsin Conservation Congress and the Wisconsin DNR have cancelled the in-person portion of the April 13 Spring Hearings in every county.

However, the online input option will still be available. That option will go live at 7pm on April 13 and remain open for 72 hours.

Please set some time aside on one of those days to make sure the voices of Wisconsin Bear Hunters are heard.

Note from the National Shooting Sports Foundation:

This year, several of the advisory questions on which residents can provide comment target traditional lead ammunition.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation opposes these efforts to restrict the use of traditional ammunition. There is no scientific evidence that lead ammunition poses a risk to wildlife populations or humans. In fact, as we have seen in Wisconsin, bald eagle populations have grown significantly in recent years. This is largely thanks to the excise tax dollars that come from ammunition sales, of which lead is an important part. A ban or restriction on traditional ammunition would lead to even higher costs for alternative ammunition, which would lead to a drop in sales and less money to conservation. Also, as we have seen in California, these higher costs lead to a drop in participation in hunting and the shooting sports, which hurts the environment, economy, and state as a whole.

Please take the time to make your voice heard in opposition to these “non-toxic” ammunition proposals.
